Professor Younghwan Kim, who established CAD & SoC Design Laboratory, has officially retired on August 27th, 2020. We sincerely appreciate his contributions and reminisce the time with him.

The following letter is what he wrote for us:

Dear CSDL OB and YB members,

I hope everything goes very well in the way you want.

There was a ceremony for retirement and professor emeritus appointment last Thursday (on 27 August 2020). I finished my 31 years and nine months of teaching and guiding students at POSTECH. I express my deep gratitude to you for congratulating me on the successful retirement. The ceremony consisted of the University ceremony and the Department ceremony. During the Department ceremony, Prof. Seokhyeong Kang passed on an appreciation plaque to me. I understand all of the CSDL members prepared the appreciation plaque wholeheartedly, and I was deeply moved. I appreciate the valuable plaque very much.

I will stay at POSTECH one more year as a Professor of special duties. During that time, I maintain my office and a part of my laboratory space. I plan to move to Kiheung area this November. This means my new place will be closer to most of the OB members. I will still have chances to see current CSDL members, making frequent trips to POSTECH.

I finally had a damn (but good??) monkey off my neck. :)  While my neck is now free to breathe, I believe short leisure in the heavy work is usually highly appreciated. Thus, I plan to devote myself to studying some recent technical topics which I wanted to investigate. The CSDL will be led by Prof. Kang, who has all the passion, experience, and intelligence to educate your juniors and to grow the CSDL to one of the best global laboratories.

Your visit to POSTECH or Kiheung and your calls are always welcome. Please, don’t take me as a vanisher and contact me from time to time.
