System-level Power/thermal Management
Smart mobile devices (e.g. smartphones and tablets) are used for various activities, such as web browsing, gaming, banking, and social networking. Smart mobile devices must have high processing speed to satisfy the requested quality-of-service (QoS) for various applications, but must also have low power consumption to maximize battery life and to avoid overheating that reduces system reliability.
We have attempted to manage power/thermal issues occurring in the smart mobile devices considering the features of underlying hardware platforms and running applications:
(1) we have developed a new multicore system simulation platform to analyze system-level power/thermal behavior of Android-based mobile devices.
(2) we have developed reinforcement learning-based system-management policies using DVFS and DPM techniques.
