Young Hwan Kim received the B.E. degree in electronics in 1977 from the Kyungpook National University, Republic of Korea, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering in 1985 and 1988 from the University of California, Berkeley, USA., under the supervision of Prof. R. Newton

From 1977 to 1982, he was with the Agency for Defense Development, Republic of Korea, where he was involved in various projects, including the development of auto-pilot guidance and control systems. From 1983 to 1988, he worked as a Post Graduate Researcher, developing VLSI CAD programs at the Electronic Research Lab. of the University of California, Berkeley, USA. 

He is currently a professor in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the Pohang University of Science and Technology, Republic of Korea. He also has been serving as an editor for the Journal of The Korea Institute of Telematics and Electronics in the field of CAD and VLSI design for six years. 

His research interest includes all aspects of the computer-aided design of integrated circuits, with emphasis on power estimation, simulation, timing verification, and multimedia applications.
